Home Along The Way

All the Great Lakes

Shortly after we set out on this trip we had an interesting epiphany while camping in Mackinaw City.  The kids were playing on the beach of Lake Huron and we realized than in a few days they would be playing in the water of Lake Superior at my Uncle's place.  They have gone to the beach of Lake Michigan numerous times so if we could figure out how to get to beaches for Lakes Ontario and Erie they could have played in all 5 Great Lakes!  So the day we left Niagara Falls we actually set out north to Niagara-on-the-Lake get to a beach on Lake Ontario and then directly south to Fort Erie to catch Lake Erie before crossing the border back into the US and continuing on.

Lake Michigan.  The most recent pic of the kids at the Lake Michigan beach. Duck Lake Park in July.

Lake Huron, Tee Pee Campground beach. We played in the water the next day.

Lake Superior near Skanee, Michigan.  They built some sweet rock walls and watched the waves knock them down.

Lake Ontario near Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Cananda.  We could see Toronto across the lake just off this pic to the left.

Lake Erie near Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada.  We found fossils in the nearby rocks.

Nothing spectacular, but a fun check mark on that list of things you have done in your life...especially when your parents grew up by the Great Lakes!

Have you been to all 5 Great Lakes?  What are your best memories?
